Peoria, IL/Bowling Green, OH – The Wright State cross country teams split for action at a pair of meets on Friday, with the Raider men finishing 11th at the Bradley Pink Classic, while Wright State contingents on the men's and women's sides both turned in seventh-place finishes at the Falcon Invitational.
Friday afternoon, the Raider men ran in the Bradley Pink Classic 'Red' 8K race against a loaded, 21-team field, with Wright State finishing ahead of the other three Horizon League teams in the field (Milwaukee, Purdue Fort Wayne and Green Bay) along with besting future HL foe Northern Illinois and regional foe Xavier. The Raiders were paced by
Patrick Statzer's 40th-place finish with a 24:52.89 mark, followed moments behind by
Blake Rodgers at 24:55.43 in 41st.
Evan McPherson (70, 25:24.21),
Alex McCarty (77, 25:27.18) and
Michael Gale (79, 25:29.53) were all just steps off their pace in the deep field.
Later Friday evening, nine Raider men ran in the Bowling Green-hosted Falcon Invitational 8K, led by
Emmitt Slabach's 23rd-place finish and 26:03.1 time, followed closely by
Tyler Mimnaugh in 33rd with his 26:19.9 mark and
Ian Ricker at 26:42.9 in 45th. A total of 16 Wright State women competed in the 6k race, led by
Shelby Hept's 39th-place finish with her 23:06.1 mark, followed moments later with
Samantha Seas' 23:09.4 time in 41st.
Sydney Thompson (56, 23:33.8) and
Kaitlin Thomas (61, 23:49.8) both turned in sub-24-minute times for Wright State as well.
Wright State will now ready for one final tune up for the postseason when the Raiders host the Wild Bill Invite on October 24 at Fairborn Community Park. The Horizon League Championship meet is slated for November 1 at Purdue Fort Wayne.
