Bowling Earns First-Ever National Ranking in February Coaches’ Poll
2/6/2025 12:05:00 PM | Bowling
DAYTON – The Wright State Bowling team is making history once again, this time after being selected No. 19 nationally in the February poll of the National Tenpin Coaches Association, the organization announced on Thursday.
Â
This ranking comes two weeks after the Raiders were ranked No. 25 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association's Power Index Ranking back on January 19.
Â
Wright State received 600 points in the poll to join the listing for the first time ever, serving as one of five independent programs ranked in the February poll. The Raiders are one of two new teams to enter the poll this month, with Valparaiso also going from unranked into the rankings at No. 25.
Â
Programs earn their ranking position by a point system. Each position has a designated point value, ranging from forty-five points for first place and one point for thirtieth place. To be ranked teams need to equal or surpass the minimum vote criteria, which is one vote for every eight ballots submitted. The actual ranking position is determined by using the adjusted point standings, which lists in priority order the total points a school has accumulated after the highest and lowest votes are dropped.
Â
The February poll rankings are based on NTCA-submitted ballots from 54 head coaches representing 28 Division I programs, 17 Division II programs, and 9 Division III programs. The ballots reflect participation from various conferences, including 4 from the AMCC, 5 from the CACC, 4 from the CCIW, 1 from Conference Carolinas, 9 from Conference USA, 4 from the ECC, 7 from the GLVC, 6 from the MEAC, 5 from the NEC, 4 from the SWAC, and 5 from independent programs.
Â
Wright State is back in action this weekend with two tournaments, first in the Chicagoland area at the Flyer Classic, with action beginning on Friday and continuing through the weekend with championship rounds on Sunday. The Raiders will also have a group participating in Columbus at  Ohio Bowling Conference Event 4 on Saturday.
