Raiders Come Up Short at Dayton Thursday

DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision on the road Thursday night at Dayton
Wright State (2-3-1) will remain away from home, traveling back down to Kentucky to take on Bellarmine Thursday, September 10. First touch is slated for 7 p.m.
Dayton wasted little time getting on the board, scoring just 14 seconds into the match. Olivia Baca finished a chance off assists from Reese Gallagher and Lauryn Contini to give the Flyers an early 1-0 advantage.
The Flyers controlled much of the first half, outshooting Wright State 9-0 over the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Leigha Lauer kept the Raiders within striking distance, recording four first-half saves.
Wright State found its breakthrough in the 72nd minute. Makenzie Chinn converted a penalty kick to level the match at one goal apiece and record her first goal of the season.
The tie would last just over two minutes before Dayton regained the lead. Laney Smith found the back of the net in the 75th minute off assists from Liv Grenda and Kamryn Hoffman to put the Flyers back in front 2-1.
Lauer continued to keep the Raiders in the match throughout the second half, finishing the evening with nine saves while facing 20 Dayton shots.
In the box score, Wright State trailed Dayton in shots (20-4), shots on goal (11-1), and corner kick opportunities (10-1). Chinn's penalty kick accounted for the Raiders' lone shot on goal of the match.
