Current Raider Student-Athletes
The Clock
For NCAA Division I, a student-athlete must complete all seasons of competition within five calendar years of initial full-time enrollment. So, in a sense, the student-athlete has five years to complete four seasons of competition.
Financial Aid
Any new athletics aid agreements must meet new requirements designed to mirror existing protections already provided to most scholarship student-athletes attending autonomy schools. Any reduction or cancelation of a scholarship may be appealed by the student-athlete. The appeals process can be found in the WSU Student-Athlete Handbook and can also be discussed with the Compliance Office.
Schools cannot reduce, cancel or fail to renew athletics aid for athletics reasons, such as:
- Injury.
- Physical or mental illness.
- Athletic ability or performance.
- Contribution to team success.
- Roster management decisions.
Agents/Professional Athletics
If a student-athlete loses amateur status they become ineligible for NCAA intercollegiate participation. To maintain this status, a student-athlete can not have oral or written contracts or agreements with anyone. No marketing of student-athletes is based on athletic talent, they do not compete on a professional team, and no gifts or benefits can be accepted by the student-athlete including their friends and family members. Agents must contact the WSU Compliance Office to complete required paperwork prior to contacting WSU student-athletes.
However, student-athletes may use an agent or marketing professional for NIL activities.
Gambling
It is not permissible to participate in wagering on sports, this includes all levels through professional sports. No pools can be entered and not internet/bookie involvement. It is also not permissible to share information about your team, teammates, or yourself.
