
Volleyball Drops Three-Game Decision to IPFW

IPFW jumped out to an early lead in the first two games and then pulled away in the third as the Mastodons defeated Wright State in volleyball action Tuesday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, winning 30-24, 30-20, 30-23.
The Mastodons broke out to a 7-1 advantage in game one and maintained the lead throughout despite the Raiders closing the margin to 25-22 after a block from Tara Geegan and Becca Awaa. IPFW went up 10-4 en route to taking the second game, but WSU grabbed the early lead in the third game and led 10-8 after a Mastodon service error.
IPFW, however, scored five straight points to go in front for good and closed out the match with a 6-2 run after a Tina Paunicka ace made it 24-21.
Kills were nearly even on the night (46-44 IPFW), but the Mastodons outhit the Raiders .218-.115 and recorded seven aces on the night to just one for Wright State.
Jenny Schultz recorded her fifth straight double-double and 15th on the season altogether as she posted 16 kills and 10 digs. Geegan added 10 kills while setter Lindsey Frank hit .333 with five kills along with 35 assists and eight digs and libero Lexi Leonhard chipped in 17 digs.
IPFW (22-10) was led by Rebekah Roehm's 13 kills while Jessica Miller had 11 and Cynara Martins added 10.
Wright State, now 13-13 on the season, looks to improve on its 7-3 Horizon League mark this weekend with a pair of matches in Northeast Ohio. The Raiders face Cleveland State on Friday, November 3, at 7:00 followed by Youngstown State on Saturday, November 4, at 5:00.
