
Volleyball Defeats Youngstown State in Four

The Wright State volleyball team improved to 3-1 in the Horizon League with a four-game win over the Youngstown State Penguins Friday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnaisum, winning 31-29, 30-20, 26-30, 30-20.
Game one was definitely a seesaw affair as there were 22 ties and 10 lead changes. WSU tallied three straight points, including a Lexi Leonhard kill, to reach game point, but Youngstown State scored three of its own to tie it at 29. The Raiders, though, claimed the win on kills from Samantha Connor and Alisha Kimbro.
The Raiders used a 9-2 run to break open game two, but YSU won game three as the Penguins broke a 22-all tie on kills by Ebony Barbosa and Karla Everhart and scored the final three points thanks in part to another Barbosa kill and one from Allison Heinz.
Wright State, however, took control early in game four, taking advantage of four Youngstown attack errors and a service error to go up 7-2. The Raiders later went up 18-9 after a 6-1 burst, which including a kill and two aces from Kimbro and two Schultz kills.
Youngstown State finished with a slight edge in kills (64-61), but Wright State committed just 21 attack errors compared to 40 for the Penguins, resulting in a .220-.107 margin in attack percentage.
Two Raiders posted double-doubles on the night as Kimbro had 17 kills and 24 digs while Schultz had 15 kills and a career-best 27 digs. Both also added three aces on the night.
Lindsey Frank had 48 assists and 15 digs for WSU and Sarah Poling chipped in 24 digs.
Barbosa led YSU (8-13, 0-5 Horizon) with a double-double of 14 kills and 22 digs while Ruth Boscaljon also had 14 kills and Jessica Fraley 12. Cari Leslie had a near double-double of nine kills and 22 digs and Everhart added 46 assists and 10 digs.
Wright State, who has now won eight of its last 11 to improve to 9-10 overall and 3-1 in the Horizon League, hosts Cleveland State Saturday afternoon at 4:00.
