The Wright State volleyball team posted its fourth straight win Saturday morning by sweeping the Akron Zips in Raider Challenge action at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, winning 30-23, 30-25, 30-22.
The Raiders trailed 5-4 in game one before tallying five straight points, the final two on kills by Tara Geegan, and eventually extended the run to 14-5 thanks in part to a pair of kills each from Alisha Kimbro and Jenny Schultz. Akron later cut the margin to 24-22, but WSU closed out game one by scoring six of the last seven points, which included two more Schultz kills.
Akron again led early in game two at 10-9, only to see the Raiders go back in front at 18-14 following a Lili Williams service ace. A kill from Colleen Dryja tied the game for the Zips at 20, but another Geegan kill put WSU back ahead and two Lexi Leonhard kills helped the Raiders pull away from a 26-24 advantage.
Wright State overcame an early 4-3 deficit in game three with an 8-3 burst, half of those coming on two kills each by Geegan and Schultz, and the Raiders led by as much as 26-15 in the late stages.
WSU outhit the Zips .221-.119 and finished with a 51-32 advantage in kills. The Raiders also recorded eight aces for the match, including three from Schultz.
After hitting .469 in the win over West Virginia Friday night, Geegan followed that up with another strong effort as she hit .480 in collecting 13 kills. Two other Wright State players posted double-doubles as Schultz had 12 kills and 11 digs while Kimbro added 11 kills and 14 digs.
