The Wright State men's soccer team defeated the Jaguars of IUPUI 2-1 on Tuesday in an overtime thriller, thanks in part to a game-winning goal from freshman forward Braden Fleak three minutes into the second overtime. Fleak scored both Raider goals in the win at Kuntz Stadium which improved WSU's winning streak to four games.
After a scoreless first half which saw WSU junior goalkeeper Tebias Mason face nine Jaguar shots, Josh Grossman and Michael Conley teamed up in the 69th minute to flick a long pass to Fleak who beat the keeper for his eighth tally of the season and put the Raiders on the board first.
The Jaguars evened the score in the 79th minute as a Chris Wey pass found Vangel Nacovski who fired the ball into the net from the far post. Neither team was able to gain an advantage before the end of regulation. The two goalkeepers kept their opposing offenses in check throughout the first overtime, but the Raiders scored just three minutes in to the second overtime.
At the 103 minute mark, a long lead pass from Jonah Longino connected on the mark as Fleak headed in the game-winning goal, his ninth of 2006, into the far corner of the net to end the match.
Wright State improves to 6-2 overall and is now 4-1 in away contests in 2006. The Green and Gold will continue their road trip on Friday, September 22, when they will make the short trek to the University of Dayton to take on the Flyers at 7:00.
