The Wright State volleyball team came back and tied each game late, but UIC pulled away each time as the Flames won in Horizon League action Saturday afternoon in Chicago 31-29, 30-24, 30-28.
Game one featured 14 ties, including at 29 following a block from Lizzy Gunn and Alisha Kimbro. UIC, though, claimed the game by scoring the next two points on Katarina Nedeljkovic kill and a Raider attack error.
The second game was tied at 21 until the Flames broke away with seven straight points, three on kills by Ambria Springer, and game three was even at 28 before the Flames wrapped up the match on another Springer kill and one from Lana Lobdell.
UIC had a 55-37 advantage in kills for the match as the Flames outhit the Raiders .163-.105.
Kimbro (11 kills, 14 digs) and Jenny Schultz (11 kills, 10 digs) both posted double-doubles for Wright State as did setter Lindsey Frank (25 assists, 11 digs). Libero Sarah Poling added 25 digs.
Springer paced UIC (8-10, 2-0 Horizon) with 16 kills and six blocks.
The Raiders, now 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, return to action next weekend with a home League match with Butler on Friday, September 29, at 7:00, followed by a nonleague contest at Dayton on Saturday, September 30, also at 7:00.
