
Volleyball Falls to #17 Dayton

The Wright State volleyball team battled all night, but came up on the short end against #17 Dayton Wednesday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, with the Flyers winning the match 30-27, 30-25, 30-27.
Dayton led most of game one, but the Raiders hung close and after cutting the margin to two three times late, drew to within one at 28-27 on a Tara Geegan kill. UD, though, scored the final two points on kills from Lindsay Fletemier and Jamie-Lee Richards.
The second game featured nine ties, the final one being at 18 following a Flyer attack error. Dayton, however, went back in front to stay on a service error and a Bethany Akerhielm block and extended the lead to 25-21 on back-to-back kills by Richards.
The Flyers led by as much as 21-12 in the third game before WSU stormed back with a 12-4 run, which included three Alisha Kimbro kills along with two kills and a block by Geegan. Another Geegan kill drew the Raiders to within two at 28-26, but Dayton closed out the match with kills from Robynne Green and Kortney Norris.
Dayton finished with a 61-42 kill advantage and outhit the Raiders .255-.146 despite Wright State holding an 11-7 edge in blocks.
Kimbro led the way for the Raiders with 13 kills while Geegan had eight and Awaa seven. Lindsey Frank tallied 35 assists and 11 digs and Lexi Leonhard had 20 digs.
Richards paced Dayton (24-1) with 17 kils while Fletemier had 13.
Wright State, now 11-15 overall, turns its attention back to Horizon League play this weekend as the Raiders host Loyola on Friday, November 2, at 7:00, followed by UIC on Saturday, November 3, at 4:00.
