The Wright State softball team split a pair of games Saturday at Morehead State, defeating the host Eagles 1-0 before falling to Oakland in the second game 6-5.

In the first game of the day, Allison Cox and Morehead State's combination of Alex Gjevre and Kari Quinn hooked up in quite a pitcher's duel as each side allowed just five hits.

Wright State scored what turned out to be the only run of the contest in the very first inning as Jherica Williams led off with a bunt single and after Michelle Logan followed with one of her own, both stole a base to put runners at second and third. Kristen Bradshaw walked to load the bases and Cox drove in Williams with a hit to left.

WSU still had the bases loaded with no one out at that point, but Jamie Perkins lined into a double play to the third baseman and a later pop out ended the frame.

Morehead's biggest threat came in the sixth as the Eagles had runners at second and third with two outs, but Cox (3-6) maintained the shutout by inducing a groundout to short. Cox faced just four over the minimum in throwing her first complete-game collegiate shutout.

The second game with Oakland was scoreless until Williams led off the fifth with her first home run as a Raider. The 1-0 lead, though, was shortlived as the Golden Grizzlies scored six in their half of the fifth, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Sarah Clark.

The Raiders, however, mounded a comeback attempt in the top of the sixth. After loading the bases on Logan reaching on an error, an Jamie Perkins then reached on another Oakland error as Bradshaw scored to cut the deficit to one.

Kristen Farley followed with a hit, but a groundout ended the frame as the Raiders stranded two and left 11 runners on base altogether in the contest.

Williams, Bradshaw and Cox each had two hits to pace the Wright State offense as WSU outhit Oakland 9-7.

Wright State, now 4-10 on the season, will play the same two teams again Sunday in Morehead, taking on Oakland at 10:00 followed by Morehead State at 3:00.
