Softball Takes Two to Win Eagle Round Robin Tournament

The Wright State softball team won twice on Sunday to take the Eagle Round Robin Tournament title, rallying for a 4-3 win over Oakland before defeating host Morehead State 9-2.

WSU opened the first game scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first. After Jherica Williams led off with her second home run in as many days, the second run came in as Kristen Bradshaw scored on a wild pitch.

Oakland, though, tied the game with two in the third and added another in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.

It was still 3-2 when the Raiders pulled off the comeback in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Williams doubled down the left field line and Bradshaw kept the rally alive one out later with a walk.

That brought Allison Cox to the plate and she came up with the game-winner as she delivered a double to left center to drive in both Williams and Bradshaw.

Cox (4-6) also picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just four hits in the complete-game effort, striking out three.

The Raiders carried that momentum into the Morehead State game as they scored in each of their first five innings. WSU scored twice in the first on a Cox sacrifice fly and a Perkins hit to left and added another in the second as Michelle Logan and Erica Schroeder pulled off a double steal.

Schroeder added a two-run single in the third to make it 5-2 and after Williams stole home in the fourth, Wright State broke the game open with three in the fifth on a Logan RBI double, a Williams single to drive in Logan and another Williams steal of home.

Perkins (2-4) struck out five to earn the win. Offensively, Logan led the way with three hits while Williams had two hits and three runs scored and Schroeder and Briauna Birl two hits each.

Wright State, now 6-10 on the season, will take the upcoming week off for finals before resuming play on Tuesday, March 20, as the Raiders host crosstown rival Dayton for a 2:00 doubleheader.
