Four Raider starters scored in double figures and two others had eight or more points as Wright State picked up its first road win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 71-53 decision over the Detroit Titans in Horizon League women's basketball action at Calihan Hall.
Detroit controlled the opening 10 minutes as the Titans jumped out to a 22-12 advantage following a Heather Hatter layup with 9:34 remaining in the first half.
The Raiders, however, responded with a 19-2 run over the next seven minutes, one that saw seven different Wright State players score, including two threes from Kanisha Ward, to go up 31-24 at the 2:42 mark.
While WSU maintained the lead the rest of the way, the margin was just nine at 52-43 until the Raiders broke the game open with a 11-4 burst, four of those coming from Tatianna Hall.
After shooting 39 percent in the first half, Wright State scorched the nets for 62 percent over the final 20 minutes to finish at 48 percent overall while the Titans hit for 32 percent in the second half and ended up at 36 percent for the game.
Detroit held a 37-30 rebounding edge, including 16-7 on the offensive end, yet it was the Raiders who held a 36-22 advantage in points in the paint. WSU also led in points off of turnovers (18-9) and fast-break points (12-4).
Shey Peddy led Wright State with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists while Whitney Lewis and LaShawna Thomas each had 12 and Ward 11. Erica Richardson, in her first action since injuring her ankle in late November, had nine points off the bench while Hall chipped in eight.
Sandi Brown paced all scorers with a near double-double of 21 points and nine rebounds for Detroit (3-11, 0-3 Horizon) while Chanica Hall had 12 and Keashawn Bond posted a near double-double of nine points and 10 boards.
