The Wright State softball team took two of three games over the final two days of the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tennessee, defeating Buffalo 9-4 on Saturday and Marshall 9-3 on Sunday before falling 5-4 to Morehead State.
Wright State picked up a run in the top of the first against Buffalo on a wild pitch, but the Bulls went in front on a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.
The Raiders, though, answered right back with a big six-run second. After loading the bases on a Heather Bauer double, a Mollie Berry walk and a Jamie Perkins fielder's choice, an error and an Allison Cox fielder's choice tied the game.
That brought Jherica Williams to the plate and she delivered the big blow, a grand slam home run to make it 7-3.
Williams had a RBI single in the third and Wright State tacked on another run in the fourth on a solo homer by Ashleigh Jackson.
Williams collected four hits overall to go with her five RBI while Perkins scored three times.
In the Marshall game, the Raiders scored three times in the second on RBI doubles by Jackson and Berry along with a run-scoring single from Jamie Perkins. WSU added two more in the third as Cox and Williams hit back-to-back doubles and Jackson singled in Williams.
Wright State broke the game open in the sixth on a pair of two-run home runs off the bats of Cox and Jackson.
Cox and Jackson each went three-for-four with two runs scored to pace the Raider offense, with Jackson driving in four and Cox two. Perkins and Berry both had two hits.
In the circle, Cox (2-2) picked up the win while Perkins faced just seven batters in pitching 2.2 innings to earn the save.
In the second game of the day, Morehead State scored twice in the top of the first, but Wright State answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Williams sacrifice fly.
The Eagles extended the lead to 5-1 with a run in the third and two in the fourth, but the Raiders posted a rally in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three times. With one out, Perkins walked and after Haney reached on an infield single, both scored on Kristen Bradshaw's triple to left center.
A Bridget Henry groundout plated Bradshaw, but Morehead State (12-0) remained undefeated as Williams flied out to end the game.
Haney had three hits to lead the way for the Raiders while Perkins had two hits and scored twice. Bradshaw also had two hits.
Williams, who hit .412 with seven RBI on the weekend, was named to the All-Tournament Team as was Perkins, who gave up just one earned run over 11.2 innings as she struck out eight and picked up a save.
Wright State, now 5-10 on the season, heads West next weekend for the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque. The Raiders open tournament play by facing Georgetown on Friday, March 7, at 3:00 Eastern followed by the host Lobos at 5:30 Dayton time.
