Wright State banged out three home runs and collected 14 hits overall as the softball team opened the home and Horizon League portions of its schedule with a 15-2 run-rule decision over the Detroit Titans Friday afternoon.
The Titans opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, only to see the Raiders answer with six in the bottom of the frame. Jamie Perkins led off with a walk and after Louie Haney singled, Jherica Williams followed with a two-run double to center. An Allison Cox hit up the middle plated Williams and Cox later scored as did Mollie Berry, who walked, on a triple to right center by Justine Shilt. Shilt scored the final run of the inning on an infield hit by Briauna Birl.
Wright State added two more in the second as Williams smacked a solo home run to left center, her fifth of the season, and Berry doubled in Cox, who reached on an error.
Detroit (5-11, 0-1 Horizon) answered with a run in the third, but WSU tacked on three of its own in its half of the inning as Kristen Bradshaw lined a three-run home run to left center, her second of the year.
The Raiders rounded out the scoring in the fourth on a two-run double by pinch-hitter Stephanie Leep followed by a two-run homer from Bridget Henry, her first of the season.
Williams went two-for-three with three RBI and three runs scored to pace the Raider offense, while Haney and Birl also had two hits.
Sharon Palma (4-4) picked up the win, striking out three in three innings of work.
Wright State, now 8-12 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League, concludes the weekend set with Detroit Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00.
