
Men's Soccer Drops 4-1 Decision to Eastern Illinois

The Wright State men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Eastern Illinois on a windy Friday evening at Alumni Field. The Raiders fell behind 4-0, before tallying their lone goal of the match.
The Raiders surrendered a pair of first half goals to the Panthers, with Brad Peters converting on his first two shots of the match. Peters scored his first goal in the 13th minute on a breakaway, beating the WSU keeper one-on-one. The second goal was tallied at the 23:48 mark when a crossing pass was deflected and Peters converted from three yards out.
In the second half, Eastern Illinois (5-1-2) added a third goal when Alex Harrison slipped a shot just under the crossbar in the 60th minute.
Peters added his third goal of the match in the 70th minute to push EIU's lead to 4-0.
The Raiders got on the board in the 84th minute when a foul by the Panthers gave WSU a free kick from 35 yards out. Junior Joe Flach teed up the free kick and sent it towards the net, that where Josh Zimmerlin converted on the diving header to cut the EIU lead to 4-1.
It was the first goal of the season for Zimmerlin and was the first career assist for Flach.
The Raiders fall to 1-7 overall on the season and their and their next match will be the Horizon League opener as WSU travels to Valparaiso. The Green and Gold will square off with the Crusaders on Sunday, September 28, starting at 2:00 Dayton time.
