
Volleyball Defeats Milwaukee in Four

Behind a balanced attack that saw four Raiders reach double figures in kills, the Wright State volleyball team won its second straight Horizon League match Sunday afternoon as WSU defeated the Milwaukee Panthers at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium 25-22, 25-27, 25-17, 25-16.
Wright State erased an early 11-9 deficit in the first set with four straight points and a 9-2 run overall to take the lead for good, only to see the Panthers tie the match by scoring the final two points of the second set. The Raiders, though, jumped out to an 8-2 lead in winning the third set and closed out the match with an 8-3 run in the fourth set.
For the match, Wright State outhit the Panthers .264-.171, including a .263-.095 differential over the final two sets. The Raiders finished with a 66-47 edge in kills to overcome Milwaukee's 14-7 block advantage.
Becca Awaa led WSU with a double-double of 17 kills and 10 digs as she hit .342 for the match, while Jessica Woods added 13 kills, Lexi Leonhard a double-double of 10 kills and 16 digs, Michelle Hammond 53 assists and 15 digs and Stefanie Shiramizu 26 digs.
Milwaukee (5-14, 2-6 Horizon) was led by Kerri Schuh's 15 kills while Lauren Felsing had 18 digs and Lauren Hintze 13.
Wright State (10-11, 2-6 Horizon) begins the second round of Horizon League play on Friday, October 16, as the Raiders host League co-leader Cleveland State in a 7:00 match.
