
Volleyball Drops Three-Set Decision to Cincinnati

Despite 23 ties and eight lead changes throughout the match, the Wright State volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Cincinnati Tuesday night at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, falling to the Bearcats 26-24, 25-19, 25-20.
The Raiders led for much of the early going in the first set before Cincinnati scored six unanswered to go up 20-18. Wright State went back in front 23-22 on a Michelle Hammond kill and again led 24-23 on a Bearcat attack error, but could not hold on as UC tallied the final three points.
WSU again led early in the second set at 10-8 until Cincinnati took control with a 7-0 run. Kills from Becca Awaa and Ashley Heyman helped the Raiders tie the third set at 15 and a Chanel Gillies kill later tied it at 19, only to see the Bearcats follow with four straight, including two Missy Harpenau service aces.
For the match, UC outhit WSU .136-.050 and had an 11.5-7 block advantage.
Awaa paced the Raiders with nine kills while Heyman had six blocks, Michelle Hammond 26 assists.
Stephanie Niemer led the Bearcats (17-8) with nine kills while Harpenau chipped in eight kills, four blocks, four aces and 11 digs.
Wright State (10-16) now hits the road for four straight matches, starting this weekend with a visit to the Windy City to take on UIC on Friday, October 30, at 8:00 Eastern and Loyola on Saturday, October 31, at 5:00 Dayton time.
