Wright State split a doubleheader with Cleveland State in the Horizon League opener for both teams Saturday at the WSU Softball Field, the Raiders taking the opener 6-2 and the Vikings winning the nightcap 8-3.

Lia Gordon gave CSU a 1-0 in the second inning of the first game with a home run to left, but the Raiders tied the game in their half of the frame as Kristen Bradshaw singled, stole second, went to third on a Justine Shilt ground out and scored on Katie Kine's sacrifice fly to center.

WSU then broke the game open with five runs in the third. After Lindsay Barrett singled and China Frost reached on a fielder's choice, Jamie Perkins followed with a home run to left center, her second of the season. The Raiders tacked on two more as Briauna Birl had an infield single and Bradshaw lined a home run along the left field line, her first of the year.

The Vikings scored an unearned run in the sixth, but Sharon Palma (4-4) picked up the win while Melanie Heyne pitched the final five outs for her first save.

Wright State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of game two, the first coming in on a Kine hit up the middle and the final two runs as a result of two Cleveland State errors.

CSU (10-10, 1-1 Horizon), however, went in front to stay with four in the fourth, the key blow being a two-run single by Danielle Young, another in the fifth on a Katelyn Ciminelli RBI single, and three more in the sixth, including a two-run home run from Christa Coppus.

Wright State (10-11, 1-1 Horizon) wraps up the three-game set with the Vikings with a single game Sunday at noon.
