
Softball Splits in First Day of Morehead State Tournament

The Wright State softball team split a pair of games in the opening day of the Comfort Inn Softball Classic in Morehead, Kentucky, Saturday, falling 2-1 to Morehead State before bouncing back with a 3-1 decision over Oakland.
The Raiders took the early lead against Morehead State with a run in the second. With two outs and no one on base, three straight singles from Mollie Berry, Briauna Birl and Jamie Perkins produced a run.
MSU, though, tied the game with a run in the third and went ahead to stay with a run in the fifth.
Berry, Birl and Kristen Bradshaw each had two hits for Wright State.
Against Oakland, WSU trailed 1-0 until scoring all three of its runs in the fifth. Perkins led off with a double to right center and Louie Haney followed with an infield hit. Two out later, Justine Shilt smacked a three-run home run to right center, her first of the season.
Ashleigh Jackson (3-3) picked up the win as she allowed just four hits while striking out two. Offensively, Perkins, Haney and Lindsay Barrett each had two hits.
Wright State (6-9) wraps up tournament play on Sunday with two more games, taking on Oakland at 10:00 followed by Dayton at 2:00.
