
Second Half Surge Leads Women's Soccer Past Toledo, 2-0

The Wright State women's soccer team posted their second straight shutout and a pair of second half goals guided the Green and Gold to a 2-0 victory at Toledo on Thursday evening. The Raiders outshot the Rockets 8-7 in the second half and Meghan Hackerson made four saves to help WSU extend its unbeaten streak to three matches.
The Raiders and Rockets couldn't connect in the first half, with Toledo holding a 7-5 edge in overall shots. In the opening frame, WSU forced UT keeper Vicki Tavern to make three saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Sara Palermo, though, connected on her first match winning goal when she netted a free kick in the 71st minute. The sophomore took a free kick from 25 yards out and placed a perfect shot in the upper left corner of the net for the eventual match winner.
WSU would add to its lead in the 84th minute when Amber Kasmer broke away from the UT defense and stuck the post with her shot. Katie Broerman trailed the play and gathered in the near miss and tapped a shot into the open net to push WSU ahead 2-0.
For the match, Toledo held a slight edge in shots (14-13), while the Green and Gold held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Hackerson made four saves to post her 17th career shutout, with UT using a pair of keepers in the match.
The next match for Wright State (2-3-1) will be on Sunday, September 13, when they face crosstown rival Dayton. The Green and Gold will tangle with the Flyers at Baujan Field on the UD campus starting at 1:00.
