For the third straight match, the Wright State women's soccer team shutout an opponent, but WSU was unable to score against crosstown rival Dayton in a 0-0 draw. Brittany Persaud took three shots to pace the WSU offense and Meghan Hackerson secured seven saves to post only the second tie in the 25th meeting between the two schools.
The Raiders and Flyers each had their chances in the first half, with the Green and Gold recording both of their shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. Hackerson made four saves in the first half, facing 14 UD shots.
UD held an 8-5 edge in shots in the second half and Hackerson made three more saves to push the match into overtime. In the overtime periods, Dayton held a 6-0 shot advantage, but none of those shots were on-goal.
Persaud, playing against her former teammates from Dayton, led the WSU offense with three shots and recorded one of the two WSU shots on goal. Five other WSU players recorded shots in the match and Megan Bush tallied the only other shot on-goal.
Hackerson posted her 18th career shutout in the match to move into a tie for third on the all-time list at Wright State. The junior has started all 47 matches in her career and sits just six shutouts shy of the top spot on the all-time list (Steph Comisar - 23.5; 2003-06).
WSU extended its unbeaten streak to four matches with the draw and is now 2-3-2 overall this season. The Green and Gold will face Western Michigan to start a four-match home stand on Friday, September 18. The Raiders and Broncos will take to the Alumni Field pitch for a 7:00 kickoff.
