
Volleyball Falls in Five at Valparaiso

Wright State looked to be in control, up 2-1 in the match and ahead 22-17 in the fourth set, but Valparaiso rallied to force a decisive fifth set and went to defeat the Raiders 21-25, 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11 Friday night in Horizon League action at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Valparaiso scored seven straight points to go up 24-22 in the fourth set and after WSU drew to within one on a ball handling error, forced the fifth set with a block from Angie Porche and Katie Layman.
In the fifth set, the Crusaders (8-5, 2-0 Horizon) broke a 7-7 deadlock with four consecutive points and the Raiders would get no closer than two the rest of the way.
Wright State (8-6, 0-2 Horizon) was led junior Lexi Leonhard and junior Jessica Woods each finished the match with 13 kills. Senior Michelle Hammond notched 41 assists while freshman Stefanie Shiramizu had 23 digs and two service aces.
WSU returns to action Saturday at Butler starting at 4:00.
