Erica Richardson posted 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds on Girl Scout Day, but the Raiders connected on just 36-perent of their shots and only one three pointer.
The game was close in the opening frame as the Raiders took the first lead of the contest when Richardson made a jumper from the wing. The two teams exchanged leads over the first five minutes, before UIC built their largest lead of the first half at five points, 15-10, with 11:19 to play. WSU went on an 18-9 run to close the half and took a 28-26 lead into the locker room.
In the first half, Jessie Miller paced all scorers with 11 points for the Flames, while Richardson had nine points and Molly Fox added eight for WSU. Maria Bennett made the lone WSU three-pointer of the contest in the first half while UIC made three from behind the arc in the opening frame.
The UIC (7-10, 4-2 Horizon) offense came out on fire to start the second half and pushed their lead to five points by scoring the first seven points of the second stanza. The lead would reach eight points when Taylor Foulks made a three-pointer at the 11:36 mark to make the score 39-31 in favor of UIC.
A pair of baskets from Kanisha Ward and Bennett cut that lead to four points, before the Flames would score the next 10 and push their lead to double digits. A Ward layup got the lead to 12, but the Flames held that double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest to hang on for the victory.
Richardson led all WSU scorers with 13 points – adding a game-high nine rebounds – while Fox added eight points. All seven Raider players scored in the contest, with each hitting at least one field goal and each player grabbing a rebound in the loss.
UIC scored 26 points off of 23 Wright State turnovers and held a 20-18 edge in points in the paint. The Flames outscored the Raiders 31-19 in the second half, with Miller scoring a game-high 20 points.
