For the 11th consecutive time and 13th time this season, the difference in a Wright State women's soccer match was one goal as Lauren Patterson scored in the 80th minute to give the Raiders a 1-0 Horizon League win at Valparaiso Sunday afternoon.
Patterson headed in her third goal of the season at the 79:34 mark off a corner kick by Brittany Persaud. It was Persaud's sixth assist of the year.
Patterson has scored all three of her goals in the last five games with two being game-winners (Youngstown State being the other).
Goalkeepers Brooke McCurdy and Meghan Hackerson preserved the shutout as each played a half with Hackerson recording three saves and McCurdy one.
It was the 11th straight one-goal decision for the Raiders, who now have a record of 5-6 over that stretch and are 6-7 in such matches overall this season. Only three matches this season have been decided by two or more goals (3-1 loss at Illinois, 3-0 win at Eastern Kentucky and a 3-1 win at Morehead State).
Wright State (8-8, 3-3 Horizon) closes out the regular season next weekend with a pair of Horizon League contests at Alumni Field, taking on Green Bay on Friday, October 22, at 7:00, followed by Milwaukee on Sunday, October 24, at 1:00.
