Lauren Patterson's first collegiate goal 4:19 into overtime lifted the Wright State women's soccer team to a 2-1 Horizon League win over the Youngstown State Penguins Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
WSU jumped out to a quick lead just 4:18 into the contest. After Penguin goalkeeper Nicole Kline dove to her left to block a shot by Bekah Bonny, Brittany Persaud kicked the loose ball into the net for her fourth goal of the season.
Youngstown State (3-10, 1-3 Horizon) answered with a goal at the 57:01 mark of the second half as Lauren Brennan connected on a shot from the left side off a pass from Shelby Parks. It was Brennan's second goal of the year.
It stayed that way until Patterson knocked in the game-winner at the 94:19 mark of overtime off a corner kick by Persaud. It was the first collegiate goal for Patterson and gave Persaud four assists on the year.
The Raiders outshot YSU for the match 25-5, with Jenna Cooper recording five shots, Persaud four and Morgan Butler and Bonny three each.
Wright State (5-7, 2-2 Horizon) continues the homestand with a pair of matches next weekend, taking on Longwood on Friday, October 8, at 7:00 followed by Indiana State on Sunday, October 10, at 1:00.
