
Women Win at Youngstown State

Wright State led just 18-14 with 8:21 remaining in the first half, but outscored Youngstown State 16-7 the rest of the period and pulled away in the second half for a 57-38 Horizon League women's basketball victory over the Penguins Thursday night at the Beeghly Center.
The Raiders jumped out to an 18-8 lead eight minutes into the contest, including six each from Erica Richardson and Molly Fox, only to see Youngstown State tally six straight points to cut the deficit to 18-14 at the 8:21 mark.
Kanisha Ward, though, answered for WSU with a three-point play and the WSU lead grew to 28-16 on a three and layup from Maria Bennett. Another Bennett triple just ahead of the horn put the Raiders up 34-21 at the break.
Wright State maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way, leading by as much as 19 on three different occasions, including the final.
The Raiders shot 40 percent for the game while holding YSU to 29 percent, 24 percent in the second half. WSU held a 40-34 rebounding advantage and led 34-14 in points in the paint and 21-1 in points off of turnovers.
Four Raiders finished in double figures, led by Thomas and Bennett with 12 each. Richardson added 10 points and eight rebounds while Fox also had 10 points as the Wright State bench outscored the Penguin reserves 22-2.
Kenya Middlebrooks paced Youngstown State (0-26, 0-15 Horizon) with a near double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds.
Wright State (10-16, 6-10 Horizon) wraps up the Northeast Ohio swing on Saturday with a 4:30 matchup at Cleveland State. That game will follow the two men's teams facing each other at 2:00.
