Both teams hit three home runs on the day, but two of Cleveland State's round trippers proved to be the difference as the Wright State softball team dropped a pair of Horizon League games to the Vikings Saturday afternoon at Viking Field, CSU winning the opener 2-0 and rallying for an 8-7 win in the nightcap.

One swing decided the first game as CSU's Tess Sito hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Sharon Palma pitched six innings of scoreless relief from there, but the Raiders managed just three singles off of Viking starter Amanda Macenko.

WSU, though, broke through in the second inning of game two as Allison Cox singled to left, Justine Shilt had an infield hit and Mollie Berry followed with a hit to center to drive in pinch-runner Michelle Baker.

The Raiders then made it 5-0 with their first home run of the day as after loading the bases on a Kristen Bradshaw single, a Louie Haney double and Jamie Perkins being hit by a pitch, Shilt cleared them with a grand slam homer to right, her second homer of the season.

Cleveland State cut the deficit to 5-3 with three in the fourth, but Wright State responded again with the long ball in the fifth as back-to-back homers from Perkins, her fourth, and Cox, her second, extended the margin to 7-3.

It stayed that way until the sixth when the Vikings tied it with a grand slam of their own by Amy Powell and the third and final homer of the day by CSU would be the game-winner as Lia Gordon smacked the first pitch of the bottom of the seventh over the fence in left center.

Bradshaw, Haney, Cox and Shilt each had two hits to pace the Raider offense in the second game.

Wright State (13-19-1, 4-4 Horizon) wraps up the three-game series with Cleveland State Sunday with a single game starting at noon.
