An own goal early in the second half proved to be all the scoring as the Wright State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker at Virginia Tech Tuesday night.
The goal came at the 46:02 mark of the second half as Virginia Tech's Jed Prater sent a driven cross from the right flank into the six-yard box, where a Raider defender attempting to clear the ball out headed it into the net resulting in an own goal for the Hokies.
"It's very disappointing to lose here tonight as we definitely played well enough to win," said head coach Bryan Davis. "Give credit to Virginia Tech, though, as they found a way to win. No excuses, we gave up an own goal and missed a lot of chances that on most days we finish. We will get back to work and we will get better from this."
The Raiders held a 13-10 shot advantage and led 5-4 in corner kicks.
Wright State (6-5-2) returns to Horizon League play on Saturday, October 22, by hosting Loyola at Alumni Field starting at 7:00.
