Drake Stewart's first two goals of the season lifted the men's soccer team past Green Bay 2-1 in Horizon League action Saturday night at Alumni Field.
Stewart opened the scoring at the 22:29 mark of the first half with his first goal off an assist by Will McAteer. That duo, along with Bryce Rockwell-Ashton, put the Raiders up 2-0 just 2:04 later as Rockwell-Ashton's cross from the right side found an open Stewart in the middle. The two assists were McAteer's first of the year while Rockwell-Ashton now has four assists.
Green Bay (9-6-1, 4-3 Horizon) cut the deficit at the 27:19 mark of the opening half as Tony Walls connected on a free kick from just outside the box, but the WSU defense held the rest of the way as goalkeeper Craig Feehan recorded four saves.
"Tonight was a crucial win against a very good team," said head coach Bryan Davis. "Coach Kelderman at Green Bay is doing a fantastic job with his group."
"As for my guys, I can not say enough," added Davis. "Credit to our captains and seniors, tonight was about them. They led us this entire season and this week they were fantastic, especially coming off a hard-fought loss at UIC on Wednesday. We get back to work on Monday and prepare for Senior Night with Bowling Green on Tuesday."
Wright State (8-6-2, 4-2-1 Horizon) hosts Bowling Green in the regular-season home finale on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:00. WSU's three seniors--Brian Cothern, Kenji Goldman and Corey Whisenhunt--will be honored before the match.
