
Volleyball Drops Decision to Loyola

Despite just a two-kill differential (48-46), the volleyball team came out on the short end against Loyola Sunday at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. The Ramblers won the match 25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18.
The first set was tied seven times in the early going until Loyola took the lead for good with four straight points and the second set was more of the same with eight times before the Ramblers scored eight of the final 10 points.
Wright State then trailed 13-5 in the third set, only to rally to tie the score at 22 on a Mariah Nussbaum ace. Loyola regained the lead on the next play, but the Raiders claimed the set by scoring the final three points on an Alaina McAuley kill, a block from McAuley and Ashley Langjahr and a Rambler attack error.
The margin was just 21-17 in the final set until Loyola closed the match by scoring four of the last five points.
The kill differential was just two (48-46) for the match, but Loyola hit .291 compared to .129 for the Raiders as the Ramblers had a 9-3 edge in blocks.
McAuley led the way for WSU with 12 kills while Splinter posted a double-double of 10 kills and 13 digs. Aimee Schubert had 39 assists and nine digs and Brittany Waddell added 11 digs.
Laura Purcell paced Loyola (4-12, 1-6 Horizon) with 17 kills while Mary Kate Styler had 12.
Wright State (2-18, 1-7 Horizon) opens the second round of Horizon League play on Friday, October 14, with a 7:00 match at Cleveland State.
