A Bekah Bonny goal with 1:03 remaining in the first overtime gave the Wright State women's soccer team a dramatic 3-2 win over Western Michigan Friday in the dedication game of WSU's new Rinzler Student Sport Complex.
The Raiders took a 1-0 lead late in the first half as Lauren Patterson converted on a penalty kick at the 43:45 mark for her first goal of the season. Wright State then made it 2-0 just 53 seconds into the second half as Adrianna Guerrero recorded her second goal of the year.
Western Michigan (3-4), however, came back and tied the game with a pair of goals within an eight-minute span to force the extra period.
That set the stage for Bonny, who tallied the game-winner on an assist by Patterson. It was Bonny's third goal of the season, all coming in the last two matches, while Patterson notched her first assist of the year.
Wright State (5-3-1) opens Horizon League play on Sunday as the Raiders host Youngstown State in a 1:00 contest.
