The Wright State men's soccer team scored twice in the final 15 minutes to defeat Evansville 2-0 at the UK Invitational Sunday in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Raiders and Aces were scoreless until the 75:10 mark of the second half when Derek Zuniga connected on a peanlty kick for his second goal of the season. The sophomore midfielder and fellow sophomore Drake Stewart then picked up their first assist of the year as they assisted a Bryce Rockwell-Ashton goal at the 88:14 mark. It was the first goal of the year for the sophomore forward.
Craig Feehan posted his third shutout of the season as the freshman goalkeeper recorded three saves.
"Evansville was a great test for us coming off of the loss on Friday," said head coach Bryan Davis. "I feel that our guys really answered the challenge quite well. It was our most complete performance to date and really gives us some great moments to build on. I can't say enough about the leadership in the group and the performance of my assistants. Overall, a strong team win."
Wright State outshot Evansville 14-12 and held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Feehan, Zuniga and Rockwell-Ashton were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
Wright State (3-1) heads to Milwaukee for two matches next weekend. On Friday, September 9, the Raiders face Northeastern at Engelmann Stadium on the Milwaukee campus starting at 6:00 Eastern. On Sunday, September 11, WSU takes on Marquette on its home field, Valley Fields, beginning at 3:00 Dayton time.
