The Wright State Athletic Department will host a weekend of events centered around Raider volleyball matches to help former WSU student-athlete Andrea (Voss) Vellinga. The weekend will take place September 16-17.
Vellinga, who played for the Raiders from 1999-2002, was critically injured in the stage collapse that took place at the Indiana State Fair on August 13.
On Friday night, September 16, as the Raiders host Youngstown State at 6 pm in the C.J. McLin Gymnasium, tables will be set up for information and sales of pink T-shirts and bracelets in support of Vellinga. The team will wear the T-shirts “For the Love of Andrea” during warm-ups and the ribbons in their hair during the match.
On Saturday, September 17, as WSU hosts Cleveland State at 4 pm, former volleyball players will run a raffle for her and/or take donations. After the match, the department will host a small reception for the volleyball alumni. At approximately 7:15-7:30, the alumni will be at gate #3 on the Nutter Center concourse, taking donations and selling T-shirts for the walk through campus which will start about 8. The current volleyball team will be walking as well. The walk is open to the public (free) but they will be taking donations to help offset the medical costs of her treatment.
