The Wright State men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with UIC in the Horizon League opener for both teams Saturday night at Alumni Field.
Freshman forward Brett Elder gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season at the 12:59 mark of the first half. After Finlay Milne delivered a free kick from midfield to Tim Sampson on the left side, Sampson headed the ball to Elder, who scored the goal to the left side of the net. It was the second assist of the year for Milne and first for Sampson.
UIC (2-4-2, 0-0-1 Horizon), however, tied the contest at the 31:52 mark as Ivan Stanisavljevic converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the season.
It stayed tied the rest of the way despite the Flames holding a 13-9 shot advantage and a 10-5 edge in corner kicks. WSU goalkeeper Jacob Bye posted four saves.
Wright State (2-6-1, 0-0-1 Horizon) heads to Green Bay on Saturday, September 29, for an 8:00 Eastern match.
