The Wright State cross country teams competed Saturday at the Horizon League Championships, held at Boardman High School near Youngstown, Ohio.
The Raider men were third, their highest since also finishing third in 2000. Senior Dan Shafer led the way for WSU by placing second in the 8K race with a time of 25:50, earning First Team All-Horizon League honors in the process. Junior Matt Peters also garnered First Team All-Horizon League recognition as he finished sixth with a time 26:14.
Shafer's performance was the highest finish by a Wright State men's runner ever in the league meet and he and Peters are the first two Raiders to receive First Team All-League honors since Cory Scheadler did so in 2003.
Senior Rachel Janson paced the Raider women as she was 19th in the 5K race with a time of 19:28.
Wright State returns to action on Friday, November 15, at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisconsin.
