The always-tough Horizon League slate, two members of the new Big East, three MAC teams and a tournament in Alabama highlight the 2013-14 men's basketball schedule which was announced on Friday. Currently, there are seven games scheduled for an ESPN platform and one on FOX Sports 1.
In the first week of the season, the Raiders will be tested by road games at Georgetown (Nov. 13) and at DePaul (Nov. 16). The matchup with the Hoyas, who went 25-7 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of last year's NCAA Tournament, is scheduled to air on FOX Sports 1. The DePaul game will be the first round game of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic which will continue for WSU at home gainst Manchester on November 18 and at South Alabama against Houston Baptist and host USA (Nov. 22-23). November ends with home tilts against Alcorn State (Nov. 27) and Western Carolina (Nov. 30)
December starts with four road games to Morehead State (Dec. 2), North Carolina A&T (Dec. 5) and VMI (Dec. 7). Those three teams played at the Nutter Center last year. The A&T game will be played near WSU junior guard Reggie Arceneaux's hometown. WSU will continue on the road at Miami (Dec. 15), but will finish the month at home with Eastern Illinois (Dec. 19), UMKC (Dec. 21) and Bowling Green (Dec. 29). WSU played at EIU and BG last year while the UMKC game finishes a BracketBuster commitment from two years ago.
Oakland makes its Horizon League debut at the Nutter Center on January 2 with the Raiders traveling to Detroit to play the Titans on January 4. The following weekend has WSU playing at reigning league champion Valparaiso (Jan. 10) and host UIC (Jan. 12). Green Bay, one of the league's preseason favorites, comes to town on January 17 before the Raiders go to Cleveland State on January 19. WSU plays Milwaukee twice in nine days—at home January 21 and in Milwaukee January 30—with a trip to Youngstown State (Jan. 25) in between.
February starts in Green Bay (Feb. 1) followed by two home games against Youngstown State (Feb. 5) and Cleveland State (Feb. 8). WSU will play its first game at Oakland (Feb. 16) and end the month with two home games against Detroit (Feb. 21) and Valparaiso (Feb. 25).
The final game of the regular season is at UIC March 1. The Horizon League Tournament has been slated for March 4, 7-8 and 11. The regular-season champion will host the quarterfinal and semifinal games with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship. First round games will be on campus sites.
