The Wright State men's soccer team held the lead in the second half, only to see Detroit force overtime with a goal late and then tally the game-winner in the second overtime as the Titans won 3-2 Saturday night at a rainy Alumni Field.
Detroit opened the scoring just 5:40 into the contest, only to see the Raiders tie it at the 14-minute mark as a free kick from junior midfielder Sam DeRoy found junior defender Kaique Fernandes, who headed in his first WSU goal. It was the third assist of the season for DeRoy.
Wright State then appeared to have tallied the game-winning goal at the 63:06 mark of the second half as junior forward Eric Lynch connected on a short shot off a pass from the right side by sophomore midfielder Jeff Rhodes. It was the fifth goal of the season for Lynch and the first assist for Rhodes.
The Titans, however, tied it with 1:20 remaining in regulation as a shot from Spiro Pliakos found the upper corner of the goal and won it with another goal at the 103:07 mark in the second overtime.
WSU outshot UDM 23-19 and led in corner kicks 10-5.
Wright State (9-4-1, 4-3-1 Horizon) steps away from league play for the next three matches, starting with a home match against Bowling Green on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:00.
