Softball Rallies to Complete Series Sweep of Youngstown State

The Wright State softball team led 3-0 early, but had to rally from a four-run deficit with four in the fifth and one in the sixth for an 8-7 win over Youngstown State Sunday at the WSU Softball Field, completing the series sweep over the Penguins.
The Raiders picked up a run in the first as Reagan Stofcheck walked, pinch-runner Rachael Oakley stole second and Becka Peterson followed with a hit to center to drive in Oakley.
WSU extended the lead to 3-0 with two more runs in the second. With two outs, Honna Susor walked, stole second and came in as Alexis Mayle dropped a double along the left field line. Jess Gorman then made it back-to-back doubles along the left field line to drive in Mayle.
Stevie Tayler cut the deficit to 3-1 with a solo home run for YSU in the fourth and the Penguins followed with a six-run explosion in the fifth, the big blow being a grand slam home run off the bat of pinch-hitter Kayla Haslett.
Wright State, though, rallied to tie the game with four in the bottom of the fifth. An infield hit with two out by Hanna Floyd produced the first run and Angie Clark drew the Raiders to within one at 7-6 on a two-run double to right center. Susor then reached on an error as Clark scored to tie the game.
The Raiders regained the lead at 8-7 in the sixth with an unearned run, but Youngstown State posed a threat in the seventh as the first two batters reached on hits. Montana Wear (9-14), however, pitched out of the jam and preserved the victory on a force out at third, a fly out and a ground out.
Offensively, Gorman finished with three hits while Clark had two hits.
Wright State (10-24, 6-2 Horizon) welcomes in the Miami RedHawks for a 4:00 doubleheader on Tuesday.
