Softball Doubles Up Miami

The Wright State softball team won its fourth straight game Tuesday afternoon, doubling up Miami 6-3 at the WSU Softball Field.
The Raiders used the long ball to open the scoring in the first as Jess Gorman singled up the middle with one out and Becka Peterson followed with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left, her sixth of the season.
The RedHawks cut the deficit in half with a run in the third, only to see WSU answer with three in the bottom half of the inning. Macey Gunther led off with a hit and a Gorman single resulted in runners at second and third as Miami trying to get Gunther heading into third. A Peterson hit through the left side of infield made it 3-1 and, after pinch-runner Rachael Oakley stole second, Hanna Floyd reached on an infield hit as Gorman scored.
The final Wright State run of the frame came as Honnah Susor drove in Oakley with a hit to left.
WSU tallied its final run of the game in the fourth as Gorman was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Peterson hit to left.
Miami scored single runs in the fifth and seventh, but would get no closer.
Ashley Sharp (2-10) picked up the win by going the first four innings, allowing just one run. Montana Wear earned her first save of the season by pitching the final three innings.
Offensively, Peterson finished with three hits and four RBI while Gorman had two hits and scored three times and Floyd and Susor each had two hits.
Wright State (11-24) heads to Wisconsin this weekend for a key Horizon League series at Green Bay, starting with a single game Friday at 4:00 Eastern.
