The Wright State softball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a split at Oakland, winning the first game 2-1 before falling in the nightcap 4-3 in eight innings.
All of the scoring in game one took place in the first inning. The Raiders scored twice as Honnah Susor reached on an error and Becka Peterson hit a two-out, two-run home run to left, her eighth of the season. The Golden Grizzlies, meanwhile, tallied a run on a Sara Cupp sacrifice fly.
WSU pitcher Ashley Sharp (7-11) retired Oakland in order just twice the entire game, but held on to the lead the rest fo the way for the victory as she struck out three.
Wright State again scored in the first inning of game two as Jess Gorman walked, stole second and scored on Peterson's hit to right. The Raiders then made it 2-0 in the fourth as Hanna Floyd drove in pinch-runner Rachael Oakley on a fielder's choice.
The Golden Grizzlies went up 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run home run by Kaley Waalkes, only to see WSU tie it in the fifth on an Angie Clark double and singles by Alexis Mayle and Gorman.
It stayed that way until Sarah Hartley homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the eighth to give Oakland the victory.
Clark had two hits to pace the Raider offense in the second game.
Wright State (19-31, 13-7 Horizon) will be the #3 seed for the Horizon League Tournament, which will hosted by Oakland. The Raiders will face #5 seed Valparaiso Wednesday at 2:30.
