Women Hit 13 Threes in Win Over Cleveland State

The Wright State women's basketball team connected on 13 three-pointers and Mackenzie Taylor scored a career-high 21 points as the Raiders defeated Cleveland State 84-63 in Horizon League action Saturday afternoon at the Wright State Nutter Center.
The game featured two ties and eight lead changes in the first six-plus minutes until an Emily Vogelpohl three gave WSU the lead for good at 17-15 with 3:23 remaining in the opening period.
That three was the start of a 13-2 run, six of those coming from Vogelpohl, to end the quarter as the Raiders went from being down one to holding a 27-17 advantage. Wright State hit 11 of 20 shots during that stanza, including five of eight from behind the arc.

WSU maintained a double-digit margin throughout most of the second quarter and went into the halftime break up 48-32 following a Symone Simmons putback just ahead of the horn.
The Raiders shot 47 percent overall in the opening two quarters, including seven of 14 from three-point range, while the Vikings shot 36 percent altogether and were five of 13 from three.
Cleveland State would get no closer than 15 the rest of the way as Wright State took its biggest lead of the day at 82-58 on a Chelsea Welch three with 1:41 left.
WSU shot 42 percent for the game, hitting 13 of 26 threes and 13 of 17 foul shots, while CSU shot 36 percent, making seven of 22 threes and 10 of 19 foul shots.
Taylor led the Raiders with a career-high 21 points, hitting a career-best six three-pointers in the process. Welch added 16 points and six assists while two other WSU players posted double-doubles in Lexi Smith (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Vogelpohl (16 points, career-high 12 rebounds).
Wright State (11-5, 3-1 Horizon) hits the road for the next four games, starting on Saturday, January 14, with a 1:00 contest at Northern Kentucky.
