The Wright State women's soccer team lost a hard fought double overtime battle 2-1 at top-seeded Milwaukee on Thursday evening in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship.

First Half Highlights

The Panthers came out strong putting relentless pressure on the Wright State defense for the first five minutes of the match. It was the Raiders striking first though when freshmen midfielder Erin Graefen ran through a contested ball and hit a lofty shot from 25 yards out over the arms of Panther goalie Mallory Geurts at the 17:25 mark. This goal was the second on the season for Graefen. After a couple unsuccessful corner kick opportunities, Milwaukee freshmen Mackenzie Schill was able to put back the equalizer off of a ball bouncing around in front of the goal. This goal was the seventh on the season for Schill. The Panthers finished the half with seven shots on goal to two by the Raiders.

Second Half Highlights

The Panthers once again spent a fair amount of the half on the Raiders end with WSU goalkeeper Maddie Jewell coming up with a handful of great saves to keep the score tied at 1-1. The Panthers added six shots on goal in the half, compared to two by the Raiders.

First OT

The Panthers continued pressure in the first ten minute overtime period with an additional six shots and four corner kicks, running their total to 12 corner kicks in the match. The Raiders were able to fend off the numerous Panther attempts.

Second OT

Junior forward Lourdes Onwuemeka found the back of the net from a cross by McKaela Schmelzer to claim the golden goal victory for the Milwaukee Panthers 1:01 into the second overtime. Onwuemeka runs her total to six goals on the season. Raiders' goalkeeper Maddie Jewell finished the match with 14 saves. The Panther victory sends them to the conference championship to face IUPUI on Saturday.

Season Recap

The Raiders finished the season with a 12-8 record, the most victories since the 13-win season back in 2007. They will look to replace first-team All-Horizon League player Sarah Colvin, the team's leading goal scorer and second-team All-Horizon League defender Niki Romero.
