Raiders Roll to Win over Titans
1/26/2018 3:26:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WSU wins 87-55
A great combination of offense and defense allowed the Wright State men's basketball team to bounce back after a loss last weekend to defeat Detroit Mercy at home 87-55 behind five Raiders in double figures.
Senior Grant Benzinger led the way, scoring all of his 17 points in the first half as he connected on four threes. Everett Winchester came off the bench to score 15 points to equal fellow freshman Loudon Love's offensive output. Cole Gentry finished with 12 points, and Jaylon Hall had 10 points.
Wright State led the game for over 39 minutes, stretching its largest lead to 35 late in the game. The 32-point difference was the largest winning margin for the Raiders this year. WSU led by 21 points with 6:28 left in the first, half but the Titans managed to close the margin to just 10 points at 1:53 thanks to three straight threes by UDM. The Raiders picked it up in the second half and didn't look back until the final buzzer.
Wright State is now 16-6 and 8-1 while Detroit Mercy drops to 6-16 and 2-7.

First Half Highlights
"Some times when a game starts like this, you think it will continue the entire game, but it's fool's gold. We had about a seven-minute period where we had a let down, but the kids did a great job of staying focused with so much going on around them--Air Force Night, me going barefoot, the large crowd, new uniforms."
       --WSU head coach Scott Nagy
"We needed to make sure we got back here and played the way we have been: playing good defense and starting out strong."
