Wright State Victorious at Detroit Mercy 80-73

The Wright State men's basketball team stayed perfect in Horizon League play at 3-0 with its fourth straight win overall Friday night at Detroit Mercy 80-73. Senior Grant Benzinger scored 18 of his 23 points on five threes in the first half as freshman Loudon Love continued his solid play as he registered his fifth double-double of the year with 13 points and 14 rebounds. First-time starter Cole Gentry finished with 14 points, and Justin Mitchell pitched in 12 points.

Wright State, now 11-5 and 3-0, has won 11 of the last 13 games. It is WSU's best league start since 2012-13 season when they started 4-0.

GAME SUMMARY

First Half Highlights

The Raiders held a 43-27 lead at halftime with a 14-0 run in the middle of the period that included nine points from Benzinger.
Benzinger had five threes in the first half, tying his season high for an entire game.
Love had nine rebounds and eight points in the first half.
WSU shot 42%, including 50% from three-point range.
Mitchell and Jaylon Hall each added five points.

Second Half Highlights

Benzinger tied his career-high six threes made that he set last year at Georgia State.
His 23 points set a season best, one better than the 22 he scored at Georgia Tech.

The Raiders dominated on points off turnovers 23-8 but the Titans narrowly outscored WSU in the paint 38-34.
The Titans shot just 33% from the field in the first half but shot 56% in the second half when they scored 46 points.
