The United Soccer Coaches announced its annual list of athletes making the three All-American Teams yesterday, and for the first time in program history, a Wright State student-athlete was named on that list as Dan Bent was tabbed a third-team All-American following a dominating senior campaign.
"I'm really proud of Dan," commented head coach Jake Slemker. "He has been an amazing player, teammate and captain for this team. Seeing him recognized on the All-American Team is really a great achievement. It also shows how this program is seen on a national level. He is in great company on that list with guys from top programs all over the nation."
Bent leaves Wright State as one of the most decorated defenders in program history. The Kent, England native was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Horizon League in 2017 and 2018 as well as first-team All-Conference both seasons. He was also selected first-team All-Region in 2018 and second-team in 2017 by the United Soccer Coaches.
While Bent anchored the defense for the Raiders, up front they were led partially by the duo of Deri Corfe and Jackson Dietrich. Both Corfe and Dietrich were named Second-Team All-North Region by the USC, following Dietrich being named First-Team All-Horizon League and Corfe garnering Second Team post-season honors.
The Wright State men's soccer team, ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll much of the season and the regular-season Horizon League Champions, posted a 13-3-3 overall record under first-year head coach Jake Slemker. It was the Raiders' fifth straight season with double-figure wins.
