After releasing the Cancun Challenge schedule last month, the Wright State men's basketball program has announced the remaining non-conference slate for the 2018-19 season.
The Challenge will include home games against Western Carolina on November 7 and North Florida on November 17, before flying to Cancun to play Penn State on November 20. The Raiders will play either Bradley or SMU on November 21.
Notre Dame College (Oct. 31, Nutter Center) Wright State will host an exhibition game against Division II Notre Dame College of South Euclid, OH on October 31. The Falcons posted an overall 6-22 record and 4-18 as a member of the Mountain East Conference.
Murray State (Nov. 10, Murray, KY) The Racers will host the Raiders after winning 80-61 at Wright State last year. It was one of only two home losses for the Raiders. Murray State won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championship, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, finishing 26-6 and 16-2. WSU leads the overall series 4-1.
Toledo (Nov. 14, Nutter Center) The Rockets finished last year at 23-11 overall and 13-5 in the Mid-American Conference, falling in the MAC Championship game to Buffalo. The Raiders defeated UT 77-69 at Savage Arena last December. The teams have split the 12 previous meetings.
Cedarville (November 27, Nutter Center) Nearby Cedarville University visits the Nutter Center on November 27. The Yellow Jackets ended the 2017-18 campaign at 13-14 and 8-12 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Raiders lead the overall series 4-2.
Indiana State (Dec. 1, Terra Haute, IN) The Sycamores finished last year at 13-18 and 8-10 in Missouri Valley Conference. Among their wins were Indiana, Green Bay, Valparaiso and Evansville. This will be the first meeting of the two schools.
Miami (Dec. 5, Nutter Center) The 16 wins last season were the program's most in six years. The RedHawks, under first-year head coach Jack Owens, defeated WSU 73-67 in overtime last year in Oxford. MU finished 16-18 and 8-10 in the MAC, and played in the College Basketball Invitation postseason tournament. WSU trails the overall series 20-13.
Kent State (Dec. 8, Kent, OH) The Flashes continued (barely) a string of 20 non-losing seasons, finishing 17-17 and 9-9 in the MAC last season. One of those losses took place at the Nutter Center, with the Raiders prevailing 63-54. The Raiders have split the four meetings with KSU. Kent lost in the semifinals of last season's MAC Tournament.
Northwestern Ohio (Dec. 13, Nutter Center) The Racers ended last year at 14-16 and 7-13 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference, including a narrow loss at Ohio University 65-58. This marks the first meeting between the two schools.
Morehead State (Dec. 18, Nutter Center) The Eagles were in rebuilding mode last season, finishing 8-21 and 4-14 in the Ohio Valley Conference. MSU leads the overall series 7-5, and won the most recent match-up during the 2013-14 season.
Mississippi State (Dec. 22, Jackson, MS) The Raiders will fly south for its final non-conference game against the Bulldogs. MSU advanced to the semifinals of the NIT, losing to eventual champion Penn State 75-60, and are expected to return all five starters from a team that finished the season 25-12 and 9-9 in the SEC. In their lone meeting, WSU fell 80-69 in Starkville during the 2009-2010 campaign.
