Fairborn, OH - The Wright State men's soccer team opened the season Friday night at Alumni Field, and treated its fans to a 3-2 victory over the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs.
First Half
The Raiders began Friday's match on the wrong note, surrendering an early goal to the Bulldogs just 41 seconds into the match on a defensive-miss play in their own box. This early gaff would serve to wake up Wright State. They would answer with two goals within two minutes of one another in the middle of the first frame. Dominik Tajak took a Jackson Dietrich corner kick in the 23rd minute and headed it in past Dakotah Bainter to bring the match level. Just two minutes after Tajak's goal, Alec Philippe tucked home a Tajak pass inside the 18-yard box to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute. After a penalty against the Raiders in the 37th minute, Izaiah Vignali pulled the game even on a penalty kick.Â
Second Half
The second half was largely a back and forth affair, but the Raiders finally broke through in the 75th minute, when Dan Bent took a Dietrich cross off a set-piece, and headed home what would end up being the game-winning goal. Junior goalkeeper Joel Sundell made two saves in Friday's match, one of which in the key minutes after Bent's game-winning goal. The win for the Raiders in Friday's match was also the first win in the head coaching career of first-year head coach Jake Slemker.

Up Next
The Raiders will hit the road for their next four matches, beginning with a trip to face Fort Wayne on Monday for a 7:00 pm kick-off.Â
