Playing its second match of the afternoon, the Wright State volleyball team picked up its first win of the season and its first win under new head coach Allie Matters by beating Georgia Southern 3-2 after falling to Connecticut 3-2 earlier.
First Set
It was WSU's sixth straight back and forth set plus this one was extended as Georgia Southern won 29-27. Teddie Sauer and Celia Powers led the way for the Raiders with five and four kills, respectively. Powers had four block assists. Freshman Lainey Stephenson pitched in with seven digs and eight assists.
Second Set
Bouncing back in nice fashion, the Raiders won the second set 25-13. Taylor Gibson picked up three kills for five overall while Sauer had seven and Powers six in two sets. GSU led early in the set but briefly as the Raiders pulled away.
Third Set
The Raiders made a comeback but fell short after being down 21-16, losing 25-23. Natalie Santana had three kills in the third to bring her total to six while Sauer and Powers each had two. Stephenson had five assists and three digs to being her totals to 16 and 12.
Fourth Set
The Raiders went on a 7-1 run to jump to an 11-4 lead and won 25-18 to force its second five-set match of the day. Powers picked up four more kills while Sauer had three to make their four-set totals of 12 each. Powers also had seven blocks along, the same amount as Alannah Lemming.
Fifth Set
Wright State jumped out to a 5-1 lead by winning the fifth set 15-8. Powers and Sauer ended with 14 kills each as Gibson posted nine. Sauer added four service aces and four block assists while Stephenson ended with 28 assists. Jenna Story finished with 15 digs.Â

The Raiders (1-1) will play the host West Virginia Saturday at 3 pm.
