Sid van Druenen has been named an assistant coach for the Wright State men's soccer team, Raider head coach Jake Slemker announced today.
Â
Van Druenen was named director of operation for the Raiders in July of 2017, then moved to volunteer assistant coach after the 2017 season. He also boasts many years as a player and coach at different levels.
Â
"I am extremely excited about Sid being on staff," Slemker said. "We have worked together for over a year now, and he is a great coach. He has a love for the game and a passion for being a coach.  He understands and reads the game at a very high level and continues to push the guys to be better"
Â
Before coming to WSU, he was General Manager and PDL head coach for the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC where he was responsible for all soccer-related aspects of the club while assisting in the day to day operations and club management activities.
Â
Prior to that, he was head coach for the Dayton Dutch Lions FC in the USL PRO in 2014, the second highest division in the USA's professional pyramid where he was the youngest head coach. In 2012, van Druenen was appointed manager of Dayton Dutch Lions W-League women's team, leading the team to a division championship, getting nominated for coach and organization of the year.
Â
"I would like to thank Coach Slemker and the WSU Athletics Administration for this opportunity," van Druenen said. "I am very thrilled and excited to be part of this new era with WSU Men's Soccer. I also want to thank my wife, Alexa, as none of this would be possible without her continuous support."
Â
Van Druenen played youth and semi-professional soccer in the Netherlands for EVV and in Portugal for CD Boliqueime. He holds a UEFA B licensed coach with a degree in Sports Management.
The Raiders are currently 2-0 and will play at Bowling Green Friday night at 7 pm in the I-75 Cup.
